The Mystery Bag!

Today, Dr. Smirnova had us guess what was in the closed paper bag. She referred to is as "The Mystery Bag."At first I wasn't sure what the point of this activity was, but then she started discussing hypotheses. We talked about how the reason that she did this was not only to open the lesson with excitement and curiosity, but to introduce the meaning "hypothesis" by having us make a hypothesis--even we may not realize that's what we are doing! This is what she wants us to do with our future students. I really liked this idea, it engaged the whole entire class because we were all guessing different things that may have been in the bag. We listened to it by shaking it, and squished the bag all around to feel everything in it. She had us write down what we though it was, and that's our hypothesis! By using our senses to guess something, you are making an educated guess. What a great lesson opener!

Teaching Climate Change in the Classroom

Dr. Edelstein mentioned a lot of eye opening things when it came to climate change. It was clear that he wants to make a real difference. It's up to us, teachers in training, to educate the future generations on this topic. Personally, I believe that climate change is real, and it is just getting worse. Why would we want to do all of these things that we are doing to our beautiful planet? When I am a teacher, I think the children will already have at least some prior knowledge on climate change. They hear about it everywhere, the different opinions of it, and so on. I will be the teacher that really tries to get the students to understand that climate change is a serious issue the WE have created. I will go over ways to change their daily routine to make a change. For example, turning off the lights when you leave a room! Small changes can make a big difference!

It's Up to YOU to Save Our Planet!

Al Gor Today we had a presentation on climate change from Dr. Edelstein. He introduced us to certain science concepts, like climate change. we discussed sustainability--how do we live our lives to allow people in future generations to live healthy lives like us? It's not fair for us to destroy everything. If this really only started since the Industrial Revolution, how much longer does the earth really have? we talked about Al Gor, who was interested in the issue of climate change. His teacher did research project studying global temperature and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. when it came to introducing the climate issue with the congressmen and senator. The CEO Exxon Mobil, the largest corporation in gas and oil, did everything he could to deny climate change. He didn't want to discuss this issue because they were given money to basically pollute environment. People did not want their money and business to be effected if we limit our use of fossil fuels. Ready to Take On This Semester!

I've always loved the first day of school. From buying new school supplies, new clothes, and meeting new people! My goal every year ever since I was little was to get good grades and try as hard as I can. I feel this is a great attitude to have going into a new year. Especially in college, where many things can be very challenging. Something I have learned about myself is that challenges are something we all need. It helps us figure out other ways of approaching things, and makes the not so challenging things even easier. Most importantly, It teaches us more about ourselves. We learn things about ourselves that we didn't know we were capable of doing. I am ready to have a great semester, and work through all the challenges I may face. We are in this together!
